Kidde Recalls Several Disposable Fire Extinguishers

Several models of Kidde disposable fire extinguishers have recently been recalled. According to reports, there have been 11 reports of the disposable extinguishers failing to work in an emergency situation. No injuries have been reported as a result, but it presents a scary situation. Make sure this will not happen to you!

Buy From the Fire Safety Experts

Disposable fire extinguishers may seem like an affordable option, but in a situation like this it could cost you all of your worldly belongings, and your safety. If you rely on a fire and safety company that specializes in high quality safety supplies, you will be able to get your fire extinguisher checked and recharged regularly.

Check the Fire Extinguisher Recall List

The fire extinguishers were sold between August 2013 and November 2014, at big box stored like Menards, Walmart, Home Depot and online, as well as at other department stores. If you have Kidde fire extinguishers in your home, business or vehicles, you will want to check that they are not the affected models. There were more than 4.5 million recalled fire extinguishers sold in the United States.

According to the U.S Consumer Safety Commission, the recalled extinguishers have a Zytel black plastic valve and the container may be red, white or silver. They are ABC or AB rated fire extinguishers. The cheaper recalls were priced between $18 and $65, and one model was sold at a $200 price point.

Have Fire Extinguishers in the Right Places

If you use combustible products or have equipment with a motor in any particular area, there should be a fire extinguisher close at hand. Whether in the kitchen, where cooking oil is used, in the garage where chemicals and automotive fluids are kept or in farm and construction equipment, it is a good time to have a fire extinguisher ready for use at all times. Make sure they are in a place where you will not forget.

  • Kitchen

  • Garage

  • Workshops

  • Vehicles

  • Farm Equipment

  • Construction Equipment

  • Factory Work Areas

  • Paint Booths

  • Break Rooms

There are different classes of fire extinguishers that are used for different purposes, so ask a fire safety expert which type of fire extinguisher to have in each your areas.
